MISSION 79SE SERIES (SONICALLY ENHANCED)
Available in
High Gloss black or Real Rosewood
Mission says that its 79 series has been a stunning
success with consumers. So much so that Mission has announced its 79SE
series, saying that in this case, the ‘SE' stands for ‘Sonically
Enhanced'. ‘The new 79SE revisions maintain the striking cosmetic
form of the original, but introduce a number of acoustic improvements
that bring a new level of musicality to the range,' says
Phil Sawyer, of Synergy AV, which distributes Mission in
Australia. Mission says that two major changes are the addition of a new
silk-dome tweeter mounted on a die-cast waveguide to improve dispersion
and midrange integration, and a new elastomer cushion-mounting system
for the tweeter. ‘Using the elastomer cushion produces a smoother,
cleaner and more detailed treble performance,' Sawyer told
Australian Hi-Fi Magazine. All crossover networks in the 79SE
series use Mission's ‘perfect phase' crossover technology to ensure
seamless integration between the drive units. Legendary British speaker
designer Peter Comeau, who designed the new range, says
the audible result is a coherent performance over the entire musical
bandwidth together with a highly stable stereo soundstage. (Comeau
co-founded British loudspeaker manufacturer Heybrook and also acted as a
consultant for flat speaker specialist NXT. His best-known designs
include the award-winning Heybrook HB1 and Mission 780, and the Mission
782, Volare V63 and Elegante E8.) All models in the new Mission 79SE
series are available in high gloss black or rosewood, in multi-layer
cabinets that are curved in order to increase dispersion and reduce
standing waves. Models available in Australia are: • 790SE $1,199/pair
(two-way standmount) • 792SE $1,699/pair (two-way standmount) • 794SE
$3,299/pair (three-way floorstander) • 796SE $4,500/pair (three-way
floorstander) • 79CSE $999 each (two-way centre channel) For further
